Because we live in the rapidly changing digital age, many people struggle to keep up with the evolving technology of our time. People sometimes feel like online marketing is too complicated to understand. The last thing we want is for our customers to feel like they’re watching a magic show; where they spend money and magically get more business. Instead, we want to teach our customers how we operate our online marketing tools. I like to explain the education of our marketing technology with a personal story.
Many years ago my friend Kevin asked me to go see David Copperfield at the Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls. To be honest I was a little skeptical; I had never been to a magic show before, but this was no little production. The place was full, the stage was very professional, and everyone was ready to see magic. At the time, I didn’t realize how big of a celebrity David Copperfield was. He was married to a supermodel so he had to be big shot, right?
A good portion of the show included audience participation and I was lucky enough to be chosen for one of the acts. Myself and about 20 others were handed flashlights and then covered with a large sheet once we got on stage. Then, Abracadabra! The magic happened. About a minute later, all 20 of us appeared on the balcony of the Washington Pavilion. The crowd roared when the spotlight was showed us after magically appearing.
Once the act was over, we were escorted down to a waiting area and greeted by David Copperfield himself. He swore us to secrecy about the details of the trick and gave us all autographed photos – which I don’t remember where I put. He was a gracious host and a lot smaller then I remember seeing on TV.
The point of this story is this: I witnessed the “magic” firsthand and saw how a professional operates his tools to create a fantastic result. It gave me a better understanding of the technical side of David’s show and now I have an even great appreciation for the wonder and awe he makes the audience feel with every wave of the hand and draw of a curtain.
This is why I encourage all of our clients to learn more about online marketing. Not only will you become more familiar with the technology available for today’s businesses, but I believe you will begin to have a greater appreciation for the results we deliver.
KeyMedia Solutions may not be able to make 20 people disappear, but we can take your business and show it to millions of people around the world – and we don’t even need a magic wand.
