While many companies spend time and resources conducting their digital marketing campaigns on the major social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr – many aren't gaining the full benefits of the service if they don't time their posts to be done at the optimal hours for those social media servers. As each of these providers have different traffic patterns, a May 16 article from Entrepreneur helps provides some insight into the ideal times to utilize these marketing tools.
According to the news source, when it comes to Facebook, the highest click-through rates are between the hours of 1 and 4 p.m. EST on weekdays. This pattern actually peaks on Wednesdays, with the highest rates at the middle of the week. Facebook marketing movements should be avoided after 4 p.m. on weekdays as well as nearly any time on weekends as Facebook activity falls off during these hours.
Twitter is very similar to Facebook but actually constrained a little more. When it comes to tweeting, the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. EST, Monday through Thursday, are prime times, with little to no difference between each day. After Thursday and toward the evening, though, Twitter activity for businesses decreases.
And then Tumblr, another major small business internet marketing tool, has very different click patterns than the other two platforms. Tumblr traffic actually peaks between 7 and 10 p.m. EST on Monday and Tuesday, and also slightly on Sundays. Furthermore, Fridays are a very popular time for Tumblr usage. For perspective, Tumblr posts after 7 p.m. will generally receive more clicks over a 24-hour period than any midday posts during the week.
